Rainy-day art activity books

These suggestions explain titles from Kevin Coulston’s publisher catalog. They are activity-planning ideas, not independent product tests.

Keep the setup manageable

Choose one book and a few drawing or coloring tools before offering a larger craft plan. A character page gives the activity a clear starting point. The child can decide whether to stop with that character or extend the picture after the main task.

Offer a change of direction

A mixed-subject cartoon book can suit a child whose interests change from page to page. A focused dinosaur or animal book suits someone who wants more of the same theme. Neither approach requires completing the whole book in order.

Make room for an invented scene

A finished robot can become part of a workshop; an animal can get an imaginary home. A sketchbook supplies extra space for those additions. Let the original activity lead naturally to a story or scene if the child wants more time with it.
