How to throw a drawing party for kids

How to run it

  1. Cover the table

Roll brown or white paper down the whole table and let kids draw on it as they arrive.

  2. Play monster mashup

Fold each sheet in three. One kid draws a head, folds it and passes; the next draws the body; the last draws legs. Unfold all at once.

  3. Run a draw-along

A grown-up draws a character one step at a time on a big sheet, and kids follow along. A step-by-step drawing book is the script.

  4. Hang a gallery

Clip drawings to a string with clothespins. Parents see it at pickup.

  5. Send them home with a book

An activity book with a favor tag beats a bag of plastic toys.

Tip: Have a few extra pencils sharpened. Somebody always presses too hard.
